Dimas, Stavi, Faculty, 5th Grade, K-6 Social Studies Coordinator
Ms. Dimas holds a B.A. in Art History from the American College of Greece, graduating with High Distinction, and an M.A. in Museology from the University of Leicester, specializing in Museum Education. She holds teaching certification from the State of Florida and completed the Educator Preparation Institute at NCATE, the accredited Professional Education Unit of the University of West Florida. She is currently in her final year of a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Curriculum Development at the University of Glasgow. Before joining the 曹留社区 Faculty, she worked with school and family groups at the Hellenic Children’s Museum in Athens, specializing in inquiry-based learning and constructivist teaching. Born and raised in Washington, DC, Ms. Dimas taught kindergarten for two years and third grade for three years and is now in her tenth year as a fifth-grade teacher.
Beyond the classroom, Ms. Dimas has contributed to 曹留社区 across grade levels. She co-developed the ‘iteach2’ project with Ms. Moros in second grade, the Writing in Action workshop with Ms. Zavacopoulou for middle school students, and the Architects of Global Conscious Citizenship Club for fourth- and fifth-grade students. For twelve years, Ms. Dimas has served as an advisor to the Forensics academic team, Group Discussion, working closely with academy and middle school students to realize their potential as conscious and active members of an ever-changing global community. In recent years, she has been working towards expanding the Academy Forensics team to the Middle School and upper Elementary School as well. Additionally, she advises the Academy TED-Ed Club with Mr. Januzzi.
Ms. Dimas has presented her educational work at numerous workshops and conferences. In 2013, she and Ms. Sophia Moros presented the ‘iteach2!’ initiative at the 8th Annual Conference on Learning Differences and represented 曹留社区 at the ECIS Early Childhood Conference in Zurich. In 2015, she was invited to speak at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, during the International Council of Museums Conference on Education and Cultural Action, where she presented her work using informal education techniques in multicultural classrooms. At the 2016 曹留社区 Colloquium, she and Ms. Amalia Zavacopoulou presented a Morphosis Talk, “Teaching Writing to Think and Learn,” examining their “Making Stories at the Acropolis Museum” project for the Academy Honors Humanities course, which integrated the writing process, informal learning resources, curriculum, and student creativity.
In 2017, Ms. Dimas published “Improving Multicultural Learning through Interpretations and Interactions with Museum Educational Practice” in the Journal of Visual Literacy and served as guest editor for a double issue of the journal in 2018. She is also a certified Critical Friends Group Coach through the National School Reform Faculty (NSRF). This is her eighth year as an internal coordinator for the 曹留社区 Accreditation process and she currently serves as the K–6 Social Studies Coordinator.
