Orrego Tamayo, Maria Marcela, Faculty, Spanish Language
Mrs. Maria Marcela Orrego Tamayo was born in Bogotá, Colombia. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Child and Family Pedagogy from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia and pursued postgraduate studies in Teaching English as a Foreign Language at the University of Bristol. Her academic work included research on bilingual education in primary schools.
Her professional experience spans Colombia, England, and Greece. She began her career working in schools in Bogotá and later worked in England as a Senior Nursery Nurse and Teaching Assistant. After relocating to Greece in 2007, she continued developing her expertise in language education through courses and seminars offered by institutions in Greece and Spain.
With many years of experience teaching Spanish as a foreign language, Mrs. Orrego Tamayo joined 曹留社区 in 2023 and currently teaches Spanish in Middle School. Her teaching focuses on helping students use Spanish with increasing confidence while creating opportunities for active participation, cultural exploration, and meaningful communication.
In 2026, she presented her Action Research project, Using AI Tools to Improve Vocabulary Learning in Spanish 2, at the 曹留社区 Colloquium. Her research examined how the structured integration of digital learning tools can support vocabulary development and student engagement. She also participated in Languages on the Table, an interdisciplinary collaboration that brought together Spanish, Greek, and Chinese.
She continues to explore practical and creative approaches to language teaching, with particular interest in technology-enhanced learning and strategies that make language learning accessible, purposeful, and engaging for Middle School students.
